Gorilla Glue Weed | Marijuana Strain Review

Gorilla Glue Weed

Officially named Gorilla Glue #4, this tricky, sticky hybrid has much to offer those that partake of this strain. Like a gorilla, the Gorilla Glue Weed effects and the aromas are heavy, and like glue, the bud is super-sticky! Read on for more info on this herbal heavy-hitter.

Effects

Though it’s thought of as a “cerebral indica,” the fact remains the indica effects of Gorilla Glue Weed are ever-present. You’ll have the euphoria and happiness of the sativa, but you’ll still experience a bit of couchlock, and of course a bit of sleepiness.

On the medical Mary-Jane front, you might want to address this ‘gorilla’ of a strain as “Doctor Gorilla,” because this sativa-indica hybrid is excellent for treating a variety of issues. Some of these include fibromyalgia, PMS, insomnia, stress and depression, and even OCD.

A note about the OCD help: Gorilla Glue Weed is said to help calm an otherwise obsessive mind. We’re not entirely sure yet how such an effect happens on the chemical receptor level (other than the obvious cannabinoid receptors) to make the “gotta do that tiny little thing—now!” feeling go away, but one reviewer for the strain says it truly helps him stave off the “need” to constantly check his emails, respond to each Facebook “ping” as it comes up, and so on.

Strain Parents

GG #4 has not two but three parent strains: Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb and Chocolate Diesel. Chocolate Diesel’s parentage itself comes from Sour Diesel and Chocolate Thai. So you can see where the #4 as well as the following aromas might come into the picture.

Smell

Common aromas you might come across with Gorilla Glue #4 are:

  • Pungent
  • Earthy
  • Diesel (from the Chocolate Diesel, of course)
  • Pine
  • Sour
  • Coffee/Chocolate

The terpenes this strain includes are Limonene (Lemon), Humulene (Hops), and Caryophelline (Black Pepper). If you’re not crazy about the hops flavor and aroma, this strain might not be for you in a smokeable form, but you might try it for dabbing or edible purposes. One article even says Gorilla Glue #4 would be good paired with a steak. Talk about connoisseurship!

Grow Tips

For those looking to learn how to cultivate some of this sweet stickiness on their own, you’ll be glad to know that GG #4 is easy to grow. Things you’ll want to consider are:

  • 58-63 days flowering period.
  • Grows well both inside and out.
  • If harvesting outside, the time to trim is early October, which is perfect for those affected negatively by long winter nights. Trim when leaves look like they’ve been sprinkled with salt or snow.
  • Fast-growing during vegetative phase.
  • Be on the lookout for hermaphroditic traits such as pollen sacs, as Chem’s Sister was a hermaphroditic plant.
  • Gorilla Glue #4 is a “top-and-train” plant. This means your height will be controlled and your yield will increase.

Gorilla Glue Weed History

Gorilla Glue Weed

The actual origins of Gorilla Glue #4 came about as an accidental pollination of Sour Dubb by a hermaphroditic Chem’s Sister plant. The resulting seeds were saved, though the original hermaphroditic plant was chucked, and thus the GG strain family was born. The GG #4 we know now has Chocolate Diesel bred into the genetic mix, giving you the diesel-y, chocolatey-coffee flavors many people have reported tasting.

This strain has become so popular that it’s won Best Hybrid for the Michigan and L.A. Cannabis Cup, as well as garnering awards and praise from the Jamaican World Cannabis Cup.
